Vietnam doubles its submarine fleet!
Admiralty Verfi Shipyards has handed the second 'Kilo' class subamrine over to Vietnam; effectively doubling that countries submarine force!
Vietnam has six 'Kilo' class submarines on order from the Russian shipyard; the first 'Ha Noi' was handed over late last year and arrived in Cam Ranh Bay on 31 December 2013; it was commissioned into the Vietnamese Navy last week. The second submarine 'Ho Chi Minh' is also expected to be delivered to Vietnam by heavy lift ship and will be commissioned later this year; as will the third boat. The remaining three submarines under the contract will be delivered by 2016.
The 'Kilo' class are the first submarines operated by Vietnam and the contract includes Russian training of Vietnamese officers and sailors.
